    Camban vs Camworks?

Has anyone comments on the features, learning curve, reliability of Cambam vs Camworks? I design in Solidworks and Camworks is their featured CAM software but it is expensive. I will be doing mostly hobbyist type work in aluminum using a standard Bridgeprot mill fitted with ballscrews and DC servo motors in 3 axis. Step and direction software will be Mach3. Thanks for any and all comments.

If you are working in SolidWorks you should take a look at HSMXpress. It's free:

    HI,

I use Mach3 and Cambam, and its pretty simple..... I only experienced one serious problem running Cambam generated Gcode in more than 200 items made on my own bridgeport and that was a collision between the cutter and the brass while in rapids.... probably caused by a cutter with a slightly bigger diameter than the input data... :-) so I really like those two aplications ******

    for whats its worth

I am a hobby CNC guy.
built my own machine and do just basic parts. Nothing to special yet.
That said, I can tell you that CamBam was easy to learn for me, I had parts cut the very first time I used it with no issues with the software.
I will confess I made lots of posts callign out issues that I was having, but in every case, the problem was either mechanical or between the keyboard and the chair. I would recommend it.

Just keep in mind that I am a real novice. I have yet to try anything 3 d or produced from a cad package. but hey, Its coming.
