Can the 6T control do Type II roughing? If it can, does it require a hardware upgrade or is it just a parameter change? I'd like to have the type II roughing but if it requires a hardware upgrade it may be too expensive for this old machine.

Type II is enabled in the program by putting a X and Z on the first line after the G71 line.
i.e.....
G0 X10.0 Z1.0
G71 P10 Q11 U0.01 W0.005 D2000 F0.014
N10 G0 X1.0 Z0.99
...
....
N11 X10.0
If you get an error then your machine doesn't have the option parameter set.
I found that out a while back when trying to rough an undercut area, interesting if you're not expecting what it will do with a 3/8 inch deep undercut. Luckily it was in aluminum.
The machine is old and I don't want to spend a whole lot on it, that's why I wanted to know if it requires a hardware upgrade or just a parameter change that will activate the function.
it's just a parameter change...... check your PMs.....
Would a 6T-A have this option ?
yes I think so. just try it. if it works it has it. if not then no.. 50-50 chance..... ;-)
It worked on my 6T-B control, thanks!
Ok im still fairly new at programming but im going to give it a bash just now and see if it works .
From what ive read its a better option to use type 2 anyway .
here's a sample. if you dont get an alarm your machine has it. if you get the alarm it *can* have it but its an option (a parameter change is required that's all)
G0 X10.0 Z10.0
G71 P10 Q11 U0.1 W0.01 D2000 F0.01
N10 G0 X9.0 Z9.99 (<-- X and Z on this line activates Type II cycles)
G1 X8.0 Z-1.0 F0.01 (feeding smaller in X here is not allowed with Type I cycles)
N11 X10.0
Type II cycles normally blend out the cuts instead of leaving steps. It could depend on the machine tool builder and how they implemented it.
i get an 065 alarm so i guess i dont have the option .
The issue I had with not having type II roughing is that when it roughs it will only do uni-directional feeds as in only x- or x+ and only z- or z+ BUT when it does the semi-finishing pass it follows the profile as programmed. In my case it meant a 3/8 inch deep semi-finish pass in an undercut.
Yes that is a problem.
I have to use single line programming for any cutouts/undercuts that i need to do.
Its a pain to program and with the small memory sometimes i need to put the parts back for a second program.
check your PMs and your problem could be solved....
Thanks
