Does the PDB = no more solid R8 holders?

I have a Power draw bar question.

When the P.D.B. is installed, does this mean that you can no longer use R8 holders in the spindle?
Is it now limited to using the TTS tooling only, with the 3/4" collet?

I would love to have the P.D.B. to make tool changes automatic .... But .... I also like the rigidity of using solid R8 holders for end mills and fly cutters.
I've had the dreaded 'TTS pullout' on two different occasions. :devious:
That's why I prefer the R8 holders for heavier cuts.

If all else fails read the documentation.

"The power drawbar is designed for use with the Tormach Tooling System® (TTS), but easily pivots away to allow manual tightening of the drawbar if necessary for conventional R8 tooling."

You can still use R8 collets, but it will be a process to do so, I avoid it.

For convenience the PDB is hard to beat!
The one drawback is that it can be activated while the spindle is running if you dont have the automatic tool changer.
Tormach may have a fix for that now I dont know.

edit: there is a simple fix for it, a red and black wire phone cable, about 2 dollars at an electronics store. one end plugs into the pdb board the other goes to the vfd but has to be hand wired in.

there is a large post on this around a year or two back.

Maybe one of the forum guys will chime in with where it is located.

I have had the PDB on my machine since the beginning and I love it.

I have learned other techniques over the years for removing large amounts of material and I no longer have cutter pull out issues.

    That is what is needed.

    thanks!

I never understood why that wasnt on there from the factory from a safety standpoint, maybe it is now.
