And 1 day to insatll and still not done.
This is what I did to my self

First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

my old trusted 7200 cd writer is not supported in XP bloody Pro; they say hey give us 60bucks and it will magically work again; bull **** I say; so
I go get a 56X burner and i still have tons of problems; I've created more tossers than ever; stupid Billware
Like you stated for that you can get a 52X32X52 burner from MSI that will run all day.they say hey give us 60bucks and it will magically work again; bull **** I say;

I'm going to change HDD as i have a second in the machine now formated to win ME; I do know I can burn with ME still
What are you using for burning software?
What is the OS "WinMe" ?
I just caught that you are having trouble burning.
I 5 burners and have not mad a coster in a few years.

Windows ME; the version just before XP; 2000 was the NT version; ME was the home version
my old burner worked just fine with ME; once I changed to XP Pro; it stopped working; then I found the Microsoft website said support was not in XP for this drive (too old; still it cost 700 bucks when new)
So I get a nice fast drive; still have problems; I've tried Nero; windows; adaptec easy cd copier; even those seem to create tossers
I'll just pull the wire; shove it inot the other drive; burn what i need; replace the cable into XP drive and get my emails again
There is some thing wrong that is for sure.
if I am right the 7200 was the old HP correct?
Does the drive work with Win2k?
this is a much stabler system then WinMe ever was.
What is the box P1 ,p3,p4 intel or say a AMD XP or or a older K5?

Never got 2K; the system is a P3-866 384mg ram GF4 V-card
yes its a HP burner
I also lost quite a bit of the workings of my Micrografx photo publisher software; it will lock up and I lose alll the work I just did; again no support; as I do artworks; this really is not cool; see below; would like to be making something like that and lose it
I guess ME is a last version of 98

There's quite a bit of difference if you look at the details of the OS, but once you add the GUI and such, they both (can) operate pretty much the same.Originally posted by Klox

Linux is an open source operating system, meaning that all the source code for it is freely available. It is fashioned after UNIX. There are TONS of distributions available, some better than others. If you'd like to give it a try on the desktop, I'd recommend Linux-Mandrake. It's a great distribution for people of all skill levels, and is freely available for download. I just installed version 9.2 on a computer and it integrates VERY well with an existing Windows network. Linux has come a long way, and I think it is now a viable alternative if you really don't want to use a MS operating system. You can be just as productive with linux, albeit there will be some learning when you first switch over.

XP has imbedded packet writing software that is supposed to allow you to read/write to a cd like it was a floppy. I would reccomend disabling this and using something like NERO. It has to be diabled first as it seems to cause problems with other software.
You can disable by shutting down the service (directcd?). Do a google on XP disable packet writing for details. You may be able to disable under the properties of that drive as well.
WOW! $700 for a HP burner? I always wondered who was paying R&D for me! Things have changed a great deal since the days of the $700 burner besides cost. For M$ to code for every possible outdated piece of hardware, the OS would be twice its size, with four times the bugs. Can't really fault M$ when HP doesn't keep its drivers current.
XP and 2000 are the only way to go for stability, support and compatability. They won't work in EVERY case, but what does?
Good luck
