    Conquest 42 problems

    Hi,
I just got a conquest 42. CRT display was know to be bad. Can see burnt coils on the back of the CRT. Replaced with a LCD retrofit.
Just got power to it and powered it up. First time display come on, but was a little choppy. Looked like System Alert on the top and a bunch of "1" in sort of a triangle below.
Powered off and back on. Now screen just flashes. Unplug the 20pin blue honda connector and the screen goes grey, flashes a saying in Japanese for a few seconds, and shuts off. One could only assume it says no input.

When powered on, spindle fan comes on, and a couple case fans. There is a small LCD readout on one of the boards. Flashes F-01 on power up, then changes to a flashing SU-01. There is 4 buttons to the right of the small display. Set Data, Mode, Up and Down arrow. They do change the display some.

History of machine. New in 92, owned by one guy up until I picked it up. Parameters were saved and machine was powered down in 2002, and has been sitting since.
3phase power was removed from the building so an inspection couldn't happen. Coolant was just oil and the whole thing was coated with oil residue. Virtually no rust for sitting that long in Iowa. Bad thing is, there was some mouse activity in the control boxes. Rear on and behind the display. No visibly chewed wires, but some crap and pee everywhere....

I know it was a gamble, and the only thing I have into it so far is the display and cost of getting it moved to Colorado. Payment of machine doesn't happen until it works.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. If you know of anyone that could help that would also be great. I am in the South Denver area. I am not opposed to paying or trading. I'm a gunsmith.

    Thank you!
    Denny

    Re: Conquest 42 problems

    UPDATE
After some time with a Hardinge service tech here, I am a lot closer than what I was. The memory was so scrambled that it wouldn't let the screen come on. After a dump and paramaeters put in several times. He did some work arounds and got to a stopping point.
    I have three alarms up.
    416 Servo Alarm : X axis disconnect.
    426 Servo Alarm : Z axis disconnect.
    476 Servo Alarm : 7 axis disconnect.

He is figuring that the axis controller card needs to be replaced after doing a lot of other testing.
    Any opinions?

    Thanks!

The disconnect alarms are due to the encoder cables either not hooked up or bad cables, not the drive cards. I worked there for 31,years and we had these alarms crop up many times. It could also be bad parameter set loaded. Some of these were set up as encoder machine and some had linear scales for postion. If you have it set up as one and it is looking for the other, you will get these alarms. Let me know how you make out.

Thank you for the reply Spiker!
This one was actually the board. The board removed the axis disconnect alarms.
The parameters have been loaded several times. Even the original from Hardine for that specific machine.
Unfortunatly, that wasn't the end of the problems. Now the alarm is a VRDY off alarm. Don't remember the number. So something is causing the VRDY light to go off when it tries to come out of E-Stop. There is a relay that clicks on the velocity board. Can't tell which. If I disconnect all axis but x and z by parameters, it does the same thing, but the relay doesn't click.

That is where it sits. I have not looked at it since March/April because I am so behind at the shop and other family reasons. I do want to get it going, but probably won't have much time in the near future.
Spiker, if you could, and don't mind, send me a PM or email. Sounds like you have a fair amount of experience with them, and I could use your help when I get back into it. denny at allcaliber dot com.

    Thanks!!
