    THREADING ON MILL TURN

A local guy with a Brand X 3 in 1 machine came by the shop and asked if we could modify his spindle to accept a thread-on face plate. The faceplate uses 1.5-8 threads. We used a piece of 1.5 diameter cold rolled steel for the test piece. When we get time we will film the entire conversion of his spindle.

I think I can do that on the older Patriot without any problems, although I would probably take bigger cuts. I did have to tune the motor parameters to get better repeatability. I used the same settings I used when I tuned the motors for cutting circles when milling. Before I did that the repeatablity was poor.

Here's a video that another customer posted on You Tube- he is a gunsmith using a Patriot model. Video is a bit jumpy due to hand held camera, but worth watching.

The only pulley device that I noticed, was the base of a light that was used on drafting tables.
I have one on my desk, they swivel and are height adjustable.

The fellow in the barrel threading video is also offering some upgrades for Shopmaster machines- lathe spiders and a bolt on kit for a 10,000 rpm engraving motor.
