Hey all,

Building myself a laser cutter and am at the stage of setting up the controller.

I have managed to get the home end stops going.

I am mainly chasing any advice on the motor settings & speeds.

Firstly, does anyone run microstepping for a laser cutter?
Also does anyone have advice on the likes of acceleration/jerk.

Also what speeds would people normally use for cutting, and for engraving?
So i can set those speeds up when doing my testing.

I just want to try and set all the mechanicals and do some realistic testing at normal speeds before
i hook any laser gear up.

At the moment I have the motors moving, but with horrible jerking. When i jog its pretty harsh on things.

I'm running 2amp nema 17 motors of TB6600 drives.

Any advice would be great!

The goal is to set it up with the lowest Um/pulse setting possible or the design will get choppy. I don’t think you cant go less than 1 mine is set at 4.07. At 50 if you cut a circle the ends won’t align. This is with a single pulley belt drive. So yes microstep all you can.
