Have a question about some older DC servo drives.
I am retrofitting a Lagun that had an Anilam crusader controler on it with baldor dc servos. I have salvaged the motors and power supply and purchased Larkins Viper 200 drives to power the servos.
One thing I notice is the old fenner drives, used some Coils (like a power supply transformer)(for lack of a better term) in series with the motor output. What is the purpose of the coils? Would they serve any useful purpose in the same place with the viper drives? the reason I am asking is because I also aquired an older servo dynamics drive chasis, and it too has the same coils on the motor output. I plan on using the chasis, being it is pretty clean and some wiring is in place and neat.

I am assuming you are refering to the armature chokes in the post.
What exactly does a choke do for a servo motor? reduce current? Reduce voltage? What are the benifits?
Will I need this on the output of the Viper drive? I think I will also contact larken about this too. What are your thoughts?

I believe the poster in the link was also using Viper driver, see post #42 on the same link for the reason for them, I have always tended to keep them, they have the effect of lessening large current spikes through the motor.
Being an inductive device, they offer very little or none opposition to DC or current of a slow changing nature, but offer impedance to a very fast changing signal.

I am trying to convert a crusader M to a Galil 1830 motion card through a ICM-1900 breakout board. for the servo drives do you know what wires go to witch terminals on the breakout board? I can send pictures and diagrams.
