    S7

Does anybody know about milling S7 Tool Steel, I mostly machine Alum, 1018, Stainless and 4340 have never cut S7. I have a customer that wants me to square up about 4 pieces and I am not sure how it will cut or speeds and feeds

    Thanks
    Josh

S7 - no problem for HSS cutter. Since I don't know the size I can not give you a RPM but use about Vc (m/min) =16. Feed (f = feed/tooth) = about 0.05mm for a 12mm dia cutter.
To tell the truth I never really check a table and go more or less by "feel" and experience using a vertical mill. For such a small job just use about 50% of what you would use on CRS.

the material is about .6 x .55 and he wants it .5x.5.

if I read your post correctly you are saying use a 12mm dia HSS end mill

How about a .500 HSS End Mill

    YOU ROCK:cheers:

Worked out great I thought it would have been a nightmare.
It turned it to not a bad side job.

    Thank You So Much

That which does not break our cutters, makes a better surface finish, to paraphrase Nietzsche.

Some of the harder stuff like tool steel often machines better for me than mild steel.

Jeurgen is right on the money with the speeds and feeds. G-Wizard would've had that 1/2" endmill doing 16 SFM and 0.0419 mm chipload (slightly less aggressive).

    Cheers,
