Hi all,

New to Mastercam X. Used it before but now picking it up again. Basically I want to cut a Batman's Batarang and attached are two pictures of the before and after. I can contour properly but I can't seem to pocket properly.

Basically when pocketing, the process left some stocks behind in the middle of the part and it is cutting the shape of the of the profile, not the actual part as in pic 1.

Anyone here can advice what I need to do to pocket the rest of the part outside of the profile? Thanks in advance.

Ok. I played around with Mastercam and what I did was created a work piece bigger than what I wanted and draw in the path I want to contour and pocket. When I did the sim cut, it cut out the part as what I wanted. Is this the only way to do this or there is a much simpler way? Thanks.

create a rectangle the for the stock then use pocket facing for starters.
Pick the stock first as the main boundary then the upper profile second. then you can finish the bottom with contour.

Thanks for your advice. I think I did that. I basically use a much larger piece and had the Batarang drawn within that. Then use pocket to remove the both face and then finish off with contouring. Here is a pic.

Thanks. The batarang is suppose to be a flipped knife version. I have cut a simple one instead with persplex glass of the same shape. My mach3 is still a demo version. Had a catastrophy today. My desktop PC decided to die on me the moment I was going to start the milling process. Used a friend pc that was left at my place due to missing PSU. Installed a PSU and the damn window didn't want to start. This went on for almost 2 hours before I managed to change a hard disk over to the friend's pc and got the mill working.

What is your second picture? Looks like an oil pan. How would cut the angle portion?

It is an electronics cover for a Friend or Foe Box. Don't know which plane but it is for a stealth. It allows air to cool the circuit boards.

I did this part in three operations using a Fixture Boss, 8 inch Rotary on an Enshu VMC650. It was quite the challenge and lots of fun.

I programmed it using BCC V21 and Solid Modeled it with Alibre Design Professional V10.

This one got scrapped due to some revision changes, broken taps and operator errors, so it made a nice trophy part, LOL.

That is a cool Batarang.
