im going to be making an "example" item on my nm-070 (sieg kx1) mill over the weekend and filming it. the intent its to give a good representation of how the machine performs. theres very few videos of these machines, and the few that there are are not really representative of the machines abilities - novakon's own nm135 demo for example.
ill be using a small block of steel (1-7/8" x 6" x 7/8") for this, and will be making a shape that will have straight lines, perpendicular lines, circles, curves, paralell diagonal lines and a flat top and bottom. things that can be mesured after its made to check accuracy, finish, etc.
the plan is then to get it tested on the nm135 and nm200 and make the gcode and setups available.
so this is all well and good, but i had an idea. rather than make a pointless bunch of cuts, i think i should make the file some sort of object thats usefull on all the mills. something for example that a nm135 owner would want, and can run the code to both test their machine, and also get a useful part.
i dont really have any idea what would be a good item though off the top of my head. i thought of things like clamps, but they are much too simplistic for the test/video. likewise i had thought of a spindle clamp for a dremel or proxxon, but it couldnt be universal to all the machines and would need a much bigger steel or aluminium bar to make.
any bright ideas?
