    another power supply question

I know there is a lot of discussion about supplies and you'd think I could sort through it all, but.......
I see a lot of reference to power supplies in the 5-6 amp range and this is whats causing some of my confusion.
If I have 4 motors, say 3 amps each, doesn't that force me to use a PS at least 12 amps?
    Thanks,
    John

If they are steppers and the 3 amps is for 2 phases....then 12 amps is fine....gives you some leeway....most people who use steppers would take the 12 amps x 2/3 and use that to find a supply. Remember that most have only 3 steppers....so, your current requirements for 4 motors is higher....did I confuse you?

Hi Viper, thanks for your reply.
I dont think you confused me...
Maybe I should explain my intentions.
I want to build a small plasma table. 4x5 ft
rack and pinion drive, with Y axis driven from both sides.
Eventually I want to have Z axis for torch height control.
    Hence the 4 motors.
So.... if I understand you, I need approx 66% of my total motor amps to be delivered by my power supply. Right?
(I do remember reading that figure on gecko's site)
    Thanks,
    John
