Normally I would think of that as a lathe process. Maybe somebody that has actually done this on a mill will post but at the very least you would need a forth axis. I'm thinking here the long pinion that drives the gear as the "worm gear".
There is probably a wizard for it somewhere.
I remember writing some GCode that did just that. I used a Sherline rotary table set up so the axis was parallel to the X and workpiece was horizontal. I used a ball end mill and rotated the piece as the X was advancing. I also used a tailpiece. It looked much like a ballscrew when I was finished. Or a column.
Someone in the forum told me the code to write or how to write it. It was pretty simple in its length (the code) but I can't remember how to do it now.
Look what I found in the scrap pile!
A lazy man does it twice.
Are you wanting to cut a worm gear , or the worm?
HI
i need to make/cut the worm 76.5 diameter please I need the g codes
the worm with 2 float its 10mm size and 76.5mm diameter of worm
I'd look at Gearotic. Bob Warfield has been promoting it-
