Whaley,
In order to get to the y screw, If you raise the knee all the way up you can look at it from underneath. Look to see if the screw is clean and has oil. You can remove the front black cover to get to the front end of the screw. If you remove the belt guard from the Y motor you can check the belt tension. If you raise or remove the rear rubber way cover you will see there is a sliding metal cover with 2 screws. Remove the 2 screws and lift up the cover and you will see the screw/ pulley, and the bearings.
There is electronic backlash compensation in the Boss8 that can be set.
How did you check the .005" backlash? Is it worse on the ends of travel vs. in the middle of the y travel?
I have a seriesII R2e3 that needs the ways scraped & if th egibs are too tigh, the backlash is high on the ends but less in the middle.
Hope that helps,
Cutmore
Is this a series II with box ways?
this mill is a series II, with boxed ways
i checked the lash by cutting a rectangle .5 wide by 2" long along x, with y only changing
direction 1 time.
i installed a new ajax , centroid controler & thy say the control cant handle .005"
backlash? when i install backlash comp in control i cant see any differance????????
thanks
