    HI

I don't Know about any one selling the KB electronics control or resistors
    in New Zeland

but Jaycar electronics sell a 0.1 ohm 5w resistors like the one on the
    plugin board you have

a second one connected in parallel with the one you have would
give you the 0.05 ohms you want

0R1ohm 5 Watt Wire Wound Resistor - Jaycar Electronics

thats the nearest I have found so far

thats the problem with us being on 12 hour different in time zones

I have found this from Farnell but its a more expensive solution

Sweet. Maybe able to get my brother to get one as he works in a electronics shop and works with all them things. Will flick him a text in morning.

Does the size matter? As the new one looks 1/2 the size of the big white one. or is it all to do with the ohms and w.

Thanks again. Time for bed i think. 5 hours sleep should do it. lol

    Hi Bluezone ,

they are both 5 Watt wire wound resistors

but the farnell / element14 one will just have an enamelled coating

the original and the Jaycar ones are cemented in to a square moulded ceramic case
this will make them mechanically stronger

if the the current limit is 5A , twice the normal motor running current
    they will dissipate 5 x 5x 0.05 watts = 1.25 W (I squared x R )
a quarter of the resistors rated power

No lights/LED's flashing. I dont even think it has any on it that I can see.
The LED's are sub miniature and are hard to see when not on. The latest versions of these boards are SMT so there is virtually no through-hole components
These .05 ohm resistors are supplied at the time of purchase and depend on what motor size you request it for.
If you have a Baldor motor rep/supplier they sell a relabeled version of KB products and would normally have them also.

    Hi Al

I see what you mean about the LED on the new surface mount boards
but in this case its missing so is R44

I've not found the value for R44 , the current limiting resistor for the LED
    20V/5 mA = about 3k9 I guess ?

found a link to Baldor motor service centers NZ -

Ok have emailed about 6 companys to see what they have and costs.

Just removed the resistor. Info on both sides of it.

    Side 1.
    .1 120v
    1/8 -1/6

    Side 2.
    .1 240v
    1/4 - 1/4

and under the resistor there is a circle with a 4 in it.

not sure about the 4 in a circle unless it identifies who inspected it

but the info on the resistor

is in the plug in horse power resistor table on page 5 of the manual ( on pdf page 3!)

    see line 6 , part number , 9838

you need the next one on line 7 , part number , 9839

The 4 in a circle is on the little board under resistor. Maybe its a size? for the plug in board? or dont know lol. but it most likely is not inportant.

Thanks will have a looky at pdf now.

Ok got the new resistor. Plugged it into board. Set all the pot's to the setting you gave me and nothing. lol. no go like the resistor that was in it. Next I turned the ACCEL pot down to lowest as it was when i got it and the lathe starts but does the same as video test 1 i posted with it running realy slow. If I turn the MAX pot right up the lathe goes fast but pulses same as in video test 2. So any ideas? Maybe the board is dodgey?

It sounds like they used this model for parts for customers that had problems?
Maybe you got the bad drive that was returned?
Normally they are not critical and work with the default settings, even with the wrong resistor when no real load is in effect.

    Hi Bluezone ,

it may be worth connecting a 100 to 150W GLS bulb in place of the motor
to see if it now works

how does the motor brushes look ?
when new they are just over 1/2" long

Brushes look fine both have around 16mm on them so have the other set I have.

Some photos of other parts I have sorted out.

Cover installed but couldnt get it to line up with this hole. Parts missing?

Screw is stopping back panel going on. Also has put a litle dent in panel.

Screw is stopping back panel going on. Also has put a litle dent in panel.

    Overlapping panels

Fixed the over lapping panels and made a little tab to hold cover on might install bit of U cannel rubber on the edge of it to full gap.

Filed a bt out of the panel to clear screw.

    Making new safety cover.

    New plate to hole cover

    Old cover.

    Getting back together.

So I tested cutting and the lathe could only just cut this stuff. Is what I make bushes out of for offroader.

So only thing to sort out is the speed thing.
Call it a night and hope it magical fix itself over night. Dreams are free.

Will test out the thing with light bulb this weekend.
