A VFD spindle is probably the best for woodworking. However, if you want a simple high quality spindle that can be just plugged into EU electricity, I'd look at the Kress.

I'm currently using a 110v version of the 800 watt Kress on my machine and I'm very happy with it.
I'm struggling with the same question for a few days. After seeing prices and models like the Bosh Colt that is very well known in the US, it's hard to find something good for a 'normal price'.
(Variable speed, 6 and 8mm bits, 240V, ...)

I think the consensus is that the spindles are good but the Chinese VFD's aren't so people are getting Hitachi VFD's. I have no personal experience.
