    Hello again everyone,

Thanks for the help so far. I thought that this was TUX, the Linux Penguin:

Image - Penguin, Commons, Common - Clipart 42936

What I was looking for was a sitting penguin like the one above but as a 3D puzzle like the d-Torso style Penguin:

Thanks to everyone. I hope someone can help

CNC Router & thick wooden standup puzzles

I hope I am in the correct forum . . . if not . . . please advice where I should post this.

Is it possible to cut a 3/4" to 1" wooden puzzle using the CNC Router? May sound like a dump question but I am trying to understand how to draw my file correctly so there isn't a big gap and the piece fit snugly.
Would I have to break apart each piece and draw individually instead of trying to cut in between ( like on a laser or scrollsaw)?

I'm new to the CNC router and surely this is possible . . any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Vicki

    SOS,

The only way to avoid or minimize your gaps between pieces, is to cut individual pieces outside the line. Keep in mind the diameter of your bit, as the corners might not fit as cleanly as you like if the inside and outside radius is too tight for the diameter of the cutter.

Do some test pieces to get the corner radius the way you want it.

You can overlay the assembled pieces with a photograph and use an x-acto knife to cut through the photograph.

    Good luck...

You can cut puzzles on a router, just use a small bit. I have used ones as small as .014", cutting 1/8" plywood, 2 passes at 15"/min, half the depth at a time. The radius is small enough you need not worry about it, just watch which lines you cut first, and don’t cut the same piece twice. I did the Mastodon in the picture a couple of years ago, came out OK.

    Larry

    P.S. It’s a ***** to put back together. LOL

    Hi Larry,
Thanks for the response - yes I can make 1/8 puzzles on the laser with no problem - it's learning how to use 3/4" to 2" for the bigger stand-up puzzles - not 3-d but something the toddlers or a bit older can play with and not swallow.

I've tried using the offset/inset and cutting each individual piece - I am having a grain issue and a lot of waste. I'll keep trying LOL

    Take care,
    Vicki

So if people upload files as ypu request, do they still need to pay to download more than one model?

And if you're paying the fee, why can't these be used for commercial projects? Are there copyright issues with these belonging to you, or they have just been collected from other sites by you?

I don't know if it's a glitch but when browsing the dxf's, the first few files I clicked on came up with 404 not found errors?

    cheers,
    Ian

Well I tried and tried and finally figured out that if I do not translate the page to English - I could download 1 file - HURRAY!

I don't trust Google and am using IE8 with my WinXP

Hope that helps others trying and getting the dreaded 404 error page.
