    one more try

    I made them "public"
when I made them "limited to those with link" I couldn't get to them.

    bostosh;
Those look amazing. Are you going to share or sell your models and give more detail on your setup and procedures? I haven't found usable models in this thread (at least within my skill level) with the exception of a solid of the entire guitar. Anyway, nice job! You guys are truly an inspiration!
    Have a great day.

    Hi Bill,

These resources might be of use, the acoustic link ones also have links to electric and other useful building tips. This is pretty much the best I've found so far, I'd love to build a nice Gibson or Fender clone for my son myself!

Thanks to this let's build a strat thread

Thanks to this site and this thread,

Once it has been done now it seems easy, I started with raw point data (posted here somewhere), and a vague fuzzy old strat print to compare with. and to. A digital caliper too. Just basic inspection or reverse engineering.
    .
Built, designed the CAD model, designed a fixture and operation plan, (24 tools) (4 sides ) programmed the CNC data, rented a shop (Fadal) and operator, brought the machined bodies home deburred and filed the machine cutter marks, and block sanded from 150 to 2000 (wet) grit then polished or painted (tinted clear coat) and bought the parts and assembled, Yes, these were polished by hand, Buffing wheels do not have the control I get by hand finishing
The only thing I did not do was run the machine and operate the spray gun.
The guitar shop professional did the string "set-up"

Oh, should I mention I used to do this for aerospace and other industries.
Tool & Die, medical, electronic, ship building, steel detailing, general model making, woodworking, surfboards, etc

I sat for long periods time staring at prints and cad models of lightweight performance aerostructures doing CNC and one day years ago, thought "Why not do guitars like aerospace structures and surfboards" to me it is just geometry and motion.

The guitar players love the sound, feel, and sustain of the rigid hollow chambered AL body. Six with wood necks two with graphite necks.
I would like to manufacture/sell these and make more beer money.

It's been a great rewarding career.
Now retired. but never get a day off,
keep your jobs, the end comes too soon.
just never stop learning this is a wonderful trade.

I had to make the pickguards to be sure of fit (4-40 c'sinks SS hex drive ), there are no standard dimensions for those.
The full AL everything eliminates electrical interference completely.
    (Aerospace Electronics trick)
The wood neck has a nickle plated pickguard to "color coordination" Wood necks get the metal inserts so that there are no wood screws used anywhere. Can't torque to wood properly.

Spectacular is all I can say!

To be able to produce such a beautiful and functional work of art as that is amazing.

Oh, and nice shirt, I have a similar one myself!

Do you guys like those flush cover plates?
    How about the radii?
Those edge curves are not pure radii but variable conic section curves made into surfaces then machined which make a sculpted smoothed body, tangent control and curve corner breaking from top to sides.
I've noticed most CAD software doesn't have these curves so I revert to Cadkey19/Fastsurf to generate this surface.then IGES them in for machining.

Does anyone have a dxf foile for a Strat Neck? I've completed the body and I just need the neck and pick guard dxf. Hopefully someone has it and it is scaled properly.
On another note, i do have some strat drawings in Autocad, but the scale is crazy off...like 300+ inches off. Maybe there is a way to convert it.
Im using Mastercam to generate drawings for my CNC.

In here is a link with DXF of strats
GitarreBassBau.de ? Thema anzeigen - Schablonen und Zeichnungen ? Gitarrenbau, Bassbau

Can't you scale the drawing to a known measurement like a fret to fret spacing?

I too am working on pick guards... My problem is some are in mm.
I have Mastercam X5 and I can generate all the proper steps to build my corian templates.....but I'm still missing the pick guard, the neck of a standard 60' and the big head of the 70's which I love.
If you can help me with any DXF's, I thank you now.

    Please send to [email protected]

    Thanks,
    Rob
