My compressor was MUCH louder and did wake my son up when it kicked in. I just sold it and I'm going to buy one of the California Air Tools Ultra Quiet compressors so I can run it at night.

I have one of those.. It is MUCH quieter than most other compressors. It is nowhere near silent, though just want to manage your expectations a little bit

Every now and then, I forget to shut the compressor off at night.. I know, I know.. Anyway, I can't hear it upstairs during waking hours. If I'm already sleeping when it eventually kicks on (there are some air leaks I need to fix..), I don't wake up. But if I'm in bed waiting to fall asleep, I can definitely hear it. That's on a completely silent house, with a non-insulated floor/ceiling, although the compressor and bedroom are at opposite ends of the (small) house.

I'm sure you'll love it though, coming from a regular compressor!

I stand corrected. Yesterday went to the shop and looked at the motor. It is definitelly brushed 110V motor.
