Where / How to clean brushes on Fanuc DC servo

Does anyone have a quick rundown of how to clean the brushes on a Fanuc DC servomotor? I assume they are underneath the round caps that are in the middle of the motor?

Im having some strange 401 Alarms on an old Mori Seiki Fanuc 6T and want to try cleaning the brushes before digging deeper.

Picture attached is just for reference, to show the caps I'm referring to.

    Thanks

They usually don't need cleaning but checking for length, if the wear is extensive or they have been changed before, there is more than likely a build up of carbon that can track to ground.
The caps can be removed and the brushed just pull out, new brush sets can be had from Helwig Carbon.

You can pull the caps and brushes out, and blow some of the carbon out of the motor. There are also some armature stones that fit in the brush hole to clean up the armature. This was part of yearly PMs at work when we used to have brushed motors.

No luck on that solving my problem. The brushes were about 5/8" long and a little carbon came out but not much. Off to the Mori Seiki forum to dig a little deeper
