Mach3 X axis only half the speed of Y Axis

    Hi all

    Machine is as below:
    • DIY 80/20 frame build
      800x600 cut area
Electronics are KTA-205 BoB driven by SmoothStepper from Peter Homann
      Stepper drivers are ND556 drivers
      Motors are generic NEMA23 430oz

The weird thing is I can run the Y Axis at 7000 mm/s at 350 mm/s/s no problem
The fastest I can get the X to run without motors stalling is 4000 mm/s at 250 mm/s/s

Yes, I have checked the obvious like motor tuning, steps per unit etc

Interestingly the X-axis motor stalls even with no load after about 10 seconds. The Y axis motor never runs that long since it would have moved past the limits in that time.

Is it as simple as the inertia/torque issues of a ball screw that is three times the length on the X-Axis ?

Also, anyone who has some documents on what the frequency settings for a smooth stepper actually so would be most welcome.

    Thanks

    DC

Sounds like your possibly getting resonance on that axis. Or, as you say, the longer ballscrew has much higher inertia. What diameter is the screw?

Try reducing your acceleration settings for the X axis.
