After tuning my lathe this was the first thing that I did. Not too difficult, but makes using the lathe soooooo much better.
A breif description:
1. AXA toolpost and a 9/16-18 4" long bolt
2. The compound taken apart, the original post comes out with a wack or two with a deadblow hammer.
3. Turn the bolt head to fit into the recess in the bottom of the compound. ~.800" dia .180 thick. Make sure to have square edges on both sides of the head.
4. Drill out the hole to be 9/16". No turning back now!
5. Mill .140" off the top surface of the compound. Measure how much you have to remove to allow your QCTP to fully adjust. This left ~.260" thickness material around the bolt.
Make sure that you remove enough so that the rear of the tool holders does not interfere with the raised portion of the compound.
6. Lock-tite the bolt into the milled compound
7. Reassemble - All installed and cutting great!
