Hi markcomp77 is there a bare pcb available for the bipolar chopper that you listed in post #710? and is 4amp its max amperage?

Try the LM317AVT or keep the supply voltage 35V or less. You can also place a zener diode inplace of r26 to increase a LM317T's 35V by the value of the zener.
The BZW04-048RL could be eliminated by using a MOSFET whose breakdown voltage is more than double your motor power supply voltage. i.e. if you are using 40V PS a 100V logic level mosfet should be ok.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reply, as a mechanical enngineer its hard for me to understand this ' how should i place the zener' , ' What Mosfet would work without the BZW04-48rl can u point out at any'............
Thanks in Advance
Irfan
what power supply voltage are you using?

28 V AC step down transformer boiling down to 40 volts DC approx.....havent bought the PS yet so open on that front.

If you can get the LM317AVT that would be the best choice, second would be a 1n3734 or 1n3735 (Zener). Make sure the bar end of the zener is the one that connects to the incomming power supply connection.

Hi Phil,
R u tellin me to use the zener in place of r26? what about the MOSFET let them be the same? U were talking about changing the FETs is that not required?
Thanks in Advance
Irfan
Yes and yes, but if you haven't ordered mosfets use a FQP13N10L or similar 100V logic level mosfet.

Hi Phil
How r U,
I have got the following, IRFZ44N's, ordered BZW's from mouser and got it already, have taken all half watt resistors including the ones on the optoisolated breakout board(i hope its not a problem) got a 22000 MFD 63v nippon electrlytic capacitor for the PS,
The motor is rated at 3.35A , one set of winding returs 0.9 ohm and another set 1.5 ohm, i have three motors and all return the same resistance values. Will this be a problem.
I have calculated the V ref for my motors with R11, 12, 24 in place as 3.35*0.33=1.1055V, u think its correct,
what shunt resistance should my PS have?
For the optoisolater ic using H11A817, after studying the motor driver circuit i have come to a conclusion that there are no pull up resistors on the motor driver and i can have the 3.3k pullups on the opto isolator board,
I have not understood how to connect the EStop to the motor drivers, can u help...
thanks in advance
Regards

Hi contactirfu,
Me I'm confused....I have a hard time sorting out who has which board and what we have been through. I get questions on various threads, emails, and on my BB. One of the reasons I created my on BB http://www.pminmo.com/phpBB/ was to help me pocket questions about specific boards so when I reviewed the thread, I know going in what the board is going in. Also that others headed down similar paths could review the thread of the board they were interested in. If you would, how about doing a cut and paste of your previous posts to put them together in the right thread on my BB. Would be a big help. Thanks, Phil

you are a pilar of the stepper-driver-needing community.
i salute you!
Meeeeeeeee toooooooo.
Thanks, I just try to do what I can.... But I have to admit, it's starting to get really confusing. I need to put up a form on my website so I have all the info I need when a user asks questions.

I know you have a very very busy schecdule,. I was wondering if you have in works or know anyone who has made their own 60-80v 6a-7a stepper driver? would be interesting for a diy gecko people could play around with and possibly be able to replace their own parts.Originally Posted by pminmo

Welllllll, I started down a discrete bipolar drive, but in conversation with a semi mfg, found out I just needed to be a little patient.

Ok, so a better chip will be available soon.Originally Posted by pminmo
What chip were you looking at previously, like to do a little research.

Can you give us more details?
I've uploaded a new 5 axis PCB for the DIY'er. http://www.pminmo.com/

This is the Stepper
http://www.jaycar.co.nz/products_uploaded/YM-2751.pdf
This Driver With the compatable BOB
Discrete Driver Boards
The Stepper is 12v 0.4a 6wire
the boards work as far as i can tell i have had turbo cnc running and was a ble to use the logic probe to get pulsing from pin3 on IC4 so i am guessing that it is all working i have now installed IRLZ44N in place of the IRF540N that i purchaced at the time. the motor will still not spin
i wired yellow and blue together
and red and brown together
grey and green to +12v
dose it matter what Wago they go into (x9-1 yellow red ect) i have tryed other combo's with no change. the motor moves if i rub one of the wires on to the -12v. I have no idea what else to try the mosfet's are all working as far as i can tell IC4 pin 1 high Wago X9-1 lo ect as per instructions, +5v working well
Basicly i would think that if there is a pulsing on the board logic when i move the Axes on the computer it should work maybe there isent enough current somthing like that HELP !! please
the power supply i am using is 12v 8amp running at about 11.5v 7.5amp
