Table Gib Will Not Go Back In

I am in the process of a CNC conversion, and was attempting to reassemble the G0704 mill table. However, the gib will only go in about 3/4 of the way. It was put back in from right to left while facing the machine. I have never had it removed, and the table moved freely in the past under manual operation. The gib measures .288" on the thicker end and .220" on the thinner end. Any suggestions?

do you still have the gib locks on the machine for that gib? There are brass pins in between the lock screw and the gib. maybe the one is sticking out and blocking the gib from going in farther?

No brass pins and/or gib locks on the machine.

You sure you didn't mix up gibs? There's two that are close (but not quite the same) in size, had me scratching my head till I figured out I had swapped them.
Q: How many tools does it take before a simple task becomes a project?
A: Just one. I'm the Tool that turns a simple task in to a project.
