Hello

Our company is buying a used mori lathe (fanuc OT) with only an rs232 port for connection to a pc.
Currently we transfer programs using usb or memory card as the machines are newer. Do you have any advice on how to transfer programs via rs232?

Can we use an rs232 - usb adapter?
Which PC software should we use?

I've heard we may need to get an older PC with XP or earlier OS

Any help would be much appreciated

DNC Precision (www.dnc-precision.com). Also works on Windows XP. The free version for small programs is available too.

i use usb to serial converter on a windows 7 laptop with Cimcoedit version to transfer.

I'd stay away from the "budget" cheaper USB converters.. the more expensive one MIGHT be good.. But as long as your software supports RS232 out, ANY RS232 emulator "card" on any system (win-xp/7/8/10) will work fine.
