    Thanks George. That sound is similar. I'll have to think over how I check for parallel on the ends.

    At least its good to know the likely cause is not debris, lack of lube or an issue with the ball bearings.

    Much appreciated

    50 in/s/s is what i consider minimum good acceleration. 100+ is my preference. otherwise the machine will have very slow and erratic contouring because it cant accelerate fast enough. 280 oz in motors on a raptor should get you 50 in/s/s on a 10 pitch 20mm diam screw to 300-400ipm. depends on the power supply and some other settings. 25 pitch and 25mm diam screws that are very long (48" +) will need a bigger motor.

    1133 oz-in twin 2525 screw x axis is a good level to me, muhahahahha... i mean.. hey, look over there!

    @John
    Thanks for you input and sorry for my late response, work was a kind of intense the last couple of days so not enough time to follow here.
    Not sure what number you referring to ... I think it says type: LM12-3004NA and yes I have Mach3 (still the demo version) and Leadshine MX4660. No sharing power. Normal wire with three strands.

    @George
    Thanks for your input! I will try these settings and come back with the result.
    BTW I have the proximity switches exactly wired like in the picture.

    I see that you don't use ball screw support units. Do you use angular contact bearings, and if so, how do you preload them?

    Re: XZero CNC

    the machines have ball screw support units. they are just custom made and a little unique. they have large double row angular contact bearings. they have no prelaod, but near zero clearance which decreases even more with the slight press fit onto the screw and into the housing. backlash from them is in the .0001" to .0003" range. not significant in the context of this type of router.

    quasi backlash test.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnIU-HKZ-a0

    it doesnt quite accurately represent the backlash as the motor is undershooting its target by about the amount indicated. the backlash seems to be less than 0.0001" when you run the same test very slowly.

    so, backlash is a non issue on the double row angular contact bearings.

    Re: XZero CNC

    Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to use two single row angular contact bearings in DF configuration? C2 or C1 double row angular contact bearings are pretty expensive.

    Re: XZero CNC

    short answer is no, its not cheaper.

    the long answer has to do with the evolution of the design over the last 6 years or so. i think the next stage is likely dual row 40 degree ac bearings matched for preload because the machines are getting bigger and more powerful and the precision demands are also increasing.

    it has to be weighed against cost though. 4 sets of EK/FK ball screw supports from a reliable source such as NSK cost almost $1000us. the cheap support blocks you find on ebay would be a downgrade over the existing dual row JAF c2 p5 setup. there isnt much in between sadly.

    The ballscrews have ballscrew bearing supports. I have made my own because all the low cost bearing supports where out of round or on angle and not machined flat . Not one out of 10 was good to use on machine without cause ballscrew to bind ,The style i use cost more but are completely machined flat
