I am having a problem getting my relay to start a Porter Cable 7518, 3 1/4 hp, 15amp router.
It will not start the router if the router is already turned on, but if the relay is turned on first, I can turn on the router.
The relay is rated at 50amps, but it is an Ebay special. Any thoughts?

Is this relay a mechanical relay or a solid state relay like Crydom. I use the solid state type and they work great. Get the AC version that can handle 30A or more they turn on with low voltage and work great.

Do you hear the relay clicking if it is mechanical?

It is a solid state relay 50amps. The relay does work, it will turn on lower amperage motors.

Sounds like your SSR is about to die. Grab one of these units and it will work perfect. I usually go with units rated way more than I need they seem handle things much better.

Your 50A should have been fine, my guess is it just got zapped. Here is one listed on ebay a high quality brand that will work for you perfect. Good Luck
