Not very deep, it is a scratch line. Probably a few thou deep.

It depends on the material. I typically multi-pass drag engrave while changing the Z-depth level to get more spring pressure. I have a hard time getting deeper than 2-3 thou in stainless steel even with multiple passes. Typically the more acute angles of the diamond point will allow for more depth, but the lines generated are VERY fine. I posted a video on youtube some time ago that shows diamond drag in 304 stainless. If you haven't seen it you can check it out.

Kind of hard to measure how deep it engraves as the point is so fine, but it does do a very nice job. I would probably guess .001-.002 with multiple passes.
When I engrave NFA items to meet the ATF requirements I use the carbide engraver because I can not get a deep enough cut with the drag engraver. I have tried multi pass on stainless and the best I can get is ~.002 . Even engraving aluminum I am not sure I could get deeper that .003 consistently.
