Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

Hello, I'm just coming close to finishing my first cnc router. I'm onto the electronics now and already hit a wall.

I'm using vista (32bit) temporarily until xp(32bit) comes in the post and having to use a parallel PCIe card, this is my first time using mach 3 and these types of drivers as i come from a 3d printing background with easy electronics and settings.

My board has an I/O range of ec00-ec07 so I have entered 0xec00 into the port 1 address and allocated in the pins setup the correct pins to which the axis are wired into. Now when i try to jog the motor it toggles off the relay and the LED turns off. If i change to using ec02 I can control the motor but only in one direction and somewhat very badly as it will only rotate one direction with some grinding sounds, now when i try to jog the other direction it toggles off the relay but still rotates in the same direction.

I'm using m335 drivers and here are some images to try and put something visual to the issue.

If your driver require an active high, both direction and step low active should be uncheck .
port setup is usually 378 ( no need to type 0x)
    section5 might be helpfull...http://www.machsupport.com/wp-conten...all_Config.pdf
    good luck

Re: Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

I've now switched over to xp and read through the manual from above to no avail. I've ran the driver test and set it to 35khz. I've tried it on 378 for the port and it does absolutely nothing to control the motor. The only control over the motor i have is on the ec02 port from my range. It's still only wanting to run in one direction in a very un-smooth motion. The PCIe card has its drivers loaded, what other causes could be causing it as I have no clue to what next.

Also to add to it is that the motor is very warm to the touch just stood still.

Measure the voltage at the direction pin, and see if you are getting 0V and 5V, depending on direction.

I've also found that those breakout boards also require a 12V-24V power supply to work properly.

The board may need 5V to work properly.

So how would I likely remedy it as the drivers, psu, bob and steppers came as a kit and I would expect them to all work.

The problem is with your PC not outputting 5V signals.

Re: Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

Well i'm using a pci card as my mobo hasn't got a parallel port on it. I was looking at buying the UC100 from https://www.cnc4you.co.uk/UC100-USB-Motion-Controller as a means to properly do away with the card.

Re: Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

Ok so if i'm only getting 3.3v on pins 3 and 4 on the p.port and i purchased the uc100 motion controller will that actually fix my issue of requiring 5v.

Re: Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

Ok, my UC100 arrived today and have gone through the setup of installing the drivers and such. The issue is now that I have 0 control over any motor although it's showing it's connected fine.
Any ideas on what to do next?

Re: Completely new to mach 3 and having motor issues

Are you sure that Mach3 is using the UC100? The pulsing engine in the Device Manager pick is the parallel port driver.

There's an option in one of the Mach3 menu's to Reset motion controller? Have you tried that, and selected the UC100?

That's all you need to do. Is the Plugin enabled in Config > Plugins?
