If you're talking about fitting it with a tool post that's moved in and out and sideways on slides by leadscrews, then you're turning it into a metal lathe, so why not just start with one of those in the first place?
You are correct, I believe that is the goal of this project to allow production runs and copying of products with limit user intervention.
