Hi,
I'm using T5 belt and pulley to drive my BT30 spindle. That belt is very loud over 1000RPM.
So I want to change but what is the best timing belt for max 6000RPM? Any thoughts on 5M belt?

Any Trapezoidal tooth Timing Belts will all be noisy
Here is what all the Timing Belts are and which is best, GT2 or GT3 is improved version of the GT2, is by far the best Timing Belts on the market, if you are not doing rigid tapping then you should be using a Poly-V-Belt around 10 or 12 groove J type would be best, a poly-V-Belt can be used for rigid tapping, if it is correctly tensioned and not over loaded, a Poly-V Belt is almost silent.

Well, spindle motor is an AC servo but honestly I don't think I'll ever do rigid tapping.
I'll take your advice and switch to poly-v belt.
Thanks Mactec54.
What is the Hp of the motor ???
You can do thread mill if you wanted to without any problems. A lot of builders make this mistake, by using Timing Belts, when they have no need for them, I always use the Poly-V-Belt for spindle builds.
Here is one I did recently, this is 2:1 10 Rib J series and has a 3 Hp motor driving it, You can make your own Pulleys.

Motor is 1.3kw, according to google that is equal to 1.74hp
1:1 pulleys

Nice job.
I can only get a poxy 4 rib J series on mine so can't go too mad with power.
If I can claw back some money from the machine build. I'll be looking into constructing a whole new head piece for it to house a BT30 spindle and bring the spindle center forward a little to gain more throat depth upto 205mm which atm is 185mm.
The Y axis travel itself is already extended to 203mm from 180mm when the conversion was done
(PM25 type machine)
hmm. I'm limited to 60mm on the pulley. Will that be a problem?
Finally had the time to get the belt. I'll cut the pulleys this weekend.

One rib is 2.34mm so it is very wide. I'll probably cut some to make it 20mm.

Hi,
My first try. PJ profile, cutter angle is 40 degrees, 2,34mm distance, 2.06mm groove depth. However I feel like I need to go deeper. What do you think?
Made a new one but with 0.2mm top radius. Fits perfect. However when I have 2.06mm groove depth then there is a space under the belt. Is this ok?

Edit: I think the space is because I tested it with the belt grooves faced outside so the grooves are shrinked a bit. The space is much smaller when I test with the grooves are facing inside.
