    put the board on a bench with an ISA video driver board, display and AT-PS2 power supply and documented the settings.
    Normally we reflashed the RTCPU on a bench with a floppy disk program. [email protected] can do this,
    as well as Siemens Mason, OH if they still support the A2100.
    The ET200 rack has failures and is had to trouble shoot unless you have a newer IM-151 with newer diagnostic codes.
    Siemens has dropped support on some of the servo drives; which may be a problem.
    With SomocomU the parameters can be backed up from the drives.
    Thanks. That it something i have read. I am in sweden so sending the boards across the sea would suck.
    I hope siemens here in europe has some sort of support.
    Im thinking of taking the boards to a computer guy who has
    Computers from nt era (made my backup hd on one).
    Meaby he can change the batteries under safe condition.

    In the field I have taken the Power supply out of the A2100 control; put it on a bench, hooked up the P1 & P2 power connectors with the
    Black wires of each plug in the middle side-by-side. Used an old plug from a PC, or Video Display to power on the power supply;
    then changed the battery. I have previous posts with handouts on checking the battery on the board without losing the settings in RAM.

    Another question. To be honest, i havent really looked much in to the acramatic box but it all begins to clear..i quess tthe wscpu is pretty straight forward to pop out with the power supply.

    But the Rtcpu . Where does one feed it with power when changing the battery?.

    Thanks for your time.

    Update.

    But not any big news but...

    I have been running the machine with my edited pitch error table. It has been ok.

    But machine started slowly developing a high pitch beep in Y axis. Move it little = quiet. Move again high pitch.

    I was able to mask it with some servo tune.

    But the longer the machine ran the worse it got.

    So something was going on.

    I started with easiest and changed the rubber couplinh between screw and motor and its quiet again.

    Seems like it set the motor out of balance.

    Havent done any test cutting as i'm busy atm...

    When i got thw machine i had to change the X axis rubber too as it was much worse..
    I guess i should change Z too..

    Re: Squareness error compensation

    The 90 Durometer RED Spider Coupling wears out over time (Siemens Drives, model EKK ) and can cause the squealing due to mechanical slop between the motor driving the ball screw and the SCALE
    feedback attached to the table.
    Looseness causing the noise can be from the Ball Screw Thrust Bearing, the Ball Screw Nut Preload, the loss of tension in the X-axis that has and outboard support
    set of Thrust Bearings with a .001" Stretch (Arrow 1000 and up); the motor coupling or the red-spider if applicable.
    There have been posts addressing how to look for ball screw / ball nut looseness.
    Lack of lubrication to the nut will cause looseness and eventually damage. The Model EKK (yr 2000 mechanical design), and EKT (yr 2002 mechanical design);
    did NOT have lubrication line to the ball screw but instead a special oil felt pad lubricator of THK design. You could put grease on the ball groove and slowly feed over it to lubricate it.
    You CANNOT use a full synthetic coolant (metal working fluid) that has no soluble cutting oil in it or you will destroy the ball screw nut and linear bearing trucks!
    Some of the linear bearing trucks had zerk/alemite grease fittings and can be greased with NLGI-#2 Lithium based grease.
