Like2Trike thanks for your reply. If baud rate is not correct then how can I change it. Can I change the crystal or change the settings in Hyper Terminal or in smc3a code ?

    Have a nice day

I'm not an expert on the code, the easiest way to fix it is to use the 20MHz crystal and it should work. I went through similar problems when I discovered I had put in the wrong crystal in my prototype board.

I think the 16MHz xtal is the correct one.... With a 20Mhz it's going to be way off...

The original uses 20MHz so that is what I used and it works fine.

Hi all, if somebody post the working hex(or smc code) with fuse settings and known xtal , it will be more helpfull to me.

    Clock source of smc3a

Hi all, what clock source is used on smc3a ? Is it 16MHz ceramic resonator or 16MHz crystal or any other external clock source ?

Because for 16MHz clock and 0 startup time I have to select fuse bit cksel=0000, sut=00. Is this setting ok for 16MHz crystal ? I am using 16MHz crystal.

Ok guys , now my controller is running.
And I have to tune it properly.
My dc motor is 2.2 amp and 24V with optical encoder 2000 ppr.
I am using original smc3a code.
I tried to tune it myself, but no success. When I power up the controller it didn't move the motor in mode0 and mode1. But when I put the motor in mode2 sometime it spins erratically or don't at all. When I put it in mode3 it just jerk off
and resets. Sometime spins at full speed. Each time motor behaves unexpected.

What can I do to tune my motors ? Any tuning utility or step by step instruction like post no 326. Pls help me in tuning process.

PLz mention how I can enter commands for each mode.

    Have a nice day

    Hello everyone.
Some time ago (a year or so) I'm playing with the servo Elm-Chan.
How to build a driver had his problems decided to modify the software to work on something already done and opt for something that worked very well. The plate designed for chip Huli friend. With some simple mods to soft ELM and changing the plate in Hull Xtal at 16 MHz. - I have to try to see if it works well at 20 and / or 24 mhz - move a servo with encoder 500 ppr (2000) working at 80v 3 amps.
The most complex was adjusting the parameters of the motor. And I have not adjusted very well. A self-tuning would be very helpful ... I'm trying MACH3 @ 1.6 Ghz pc to 16 MHz Xtal mode 3 and seems to work well.

    Hello,

I am not sure that it is a right plase to put this post. I work a few years on my own DC servo drive project. I use dsPIC microcontroller. I call my DC servo driver DCS-140. Please see some of my testing videos on:

Some of my parters retrofited some old CNC machine, so somebody maybe find it interesing:

Could anyone share Chan's SMC3A firmware as hex file? I've never used atmel product before and could not convert to hex file

Sorry if my question is stupid, if there is a simpler scheme of servo controllers, most need something simpler to be able to gain some knowledge for them, please put a link where we can teach beginners the basic problems with the servo motors and controllers for servo motors .

    resetting

    Hi!

I have serious problem with elm servo like Rony.sn. My attiny is resetting if its connected to ir2148 drivers. I tried to connect it with opto couplers h11L1 but its sill the same. Leg SD on ir 2184 is not connected and break resistor circuit is also not soldered on board so its just like on original design. Im desperate what to do. Here is my circuit and board http://www.filedropper.com/elm

    Thank for any help
