Overload protection on a Rotary Phase Converter?

Is overload protection necessary on a rotary phase converter to run a Bridgeport mill with a 2hp motor and a lathe with a 3hp motor?
I can buy a 10hp rpc at WNY Supply for $175 or the gold series for $272 the gold series has overload protection plus it has better voltage and current balancing but im not running cnc just manual machines.Any advice would be a great help!

    Thanks Mike

Yeah, overload protection is a must! Those who don't install it are cutting corners to save costs!!
