I'm thinking about mounting a laser diode on my cnc router and was hoping someone could answer some basic questions for me.
What type of performance difference is there between different wave lengths? Does a 808nm cut certain materials better than a 445nm or does it matter? can one focus smaller than another?
What performance could I expect from a 3 watt diode, How fast and how deep would it cut hardwood?
What difference would there be between a 3watt and a 5watt, would the 5watt cut faster and or deeper, would the difference be a lot or just minimal?
Any input would be appreciated.

Different wavelengths affect performance based on material properties. A 445nm (blue) laser diode generally cuts and engraves wood more efficiently than an 808nm (infrared) diode due to better absorption by organic materials. The 445nm laser also allows for a finer focus, leading to more detailed work.

A 3-watt diode can cut hardwood, but slowly and shallowly, usually no more than a few millimeters deep. A 5-watt diode would cut faster and deeper, offering improved performance, but the difference may not be drastic.
