G'day all,
This is my first post on this forrum (Well any forrum actualy).
I'm upgrading my converted manual bench top mill spindle drive to a T6 rs 1000W Servo drive and are stumped on how to wire up the driver from the Mach 3 usb board using PWM . Any feedback would be much appreciated as its been a long road .
I've attached the manuals for the Driver and the Mach 3 Motion card.

Hi,
I presume you have programmed the servo drive to be in velocity mode ie 0-10V?

PS: Correction, on reading the servo manual it does not appear to have an analogue input for speed. Can you see it? It has a Velocity control mode where you send it a number
of different digital signals and the servo selects one of the pre-programmed speeds, but it is not continuously variable.

Is this what you intended when you bought the thing?

Hi,
it would appear that these servos have Pulse Control (Step/Direction) OR RS485....they DO NOT have analogue input..

You might have gotten them cheap......but shame it won't do as you thought it would.

Thanx for the quick respons Craig, Yes i did purchase this with the expectation of being able to control by Mach 3 as a spindle. I spose i need to get another Driver that does analogue then.

Hi,
yes, getting a drive that has an analogue input is one approach.

Another is to use Step/Direction. This is certainly doable in Mach4 with an Ethernet Smoothstepper. I would presume you can do it in Mach3 also, but it's been so long (ten years) that
I transitioned to Mach4 I have forgotten much about Mach3.

If this was possible in mach 3 , then how would it work? Its always good to know all your options before deciding on a coarse to take.

I've just looked into the easy stepper solution and it looks as though it will work on mach3 using step/dir. Its also a lot cheaper than purchasing another driver.

Don't know, don't care, as I have said I have not bothered with Mach3 in ten years.

In Mach4 you can have Out-of-Band axes, which are not coordinated with regular (X,Y,Z,A,B,C) axes, and can be made to rotate freely at precise speeds.
That is how I would do it.
