Xbox 360 Kinect scanner & Reconnectme scanning software

I would like it scan and cut a airsoft rifel stock and make an edited copy because I don’t want to cut up the original one. Either using Vectric two sided cutting, or rotating on my A axis using a STL file.

Have got a XBOX 360 Kinect scanner with associated cabling.

    I downloaded RECONSTRUCTME software.

The problem is I cannot find any step by step setup to scan instructions for the RECONSTRUCTme software.

Is anyone using this configuration, and could offer some how to tips?

Another approach to scanning the stock would be to use my IPHONE and QLONE scanning software. I have tried to use it with the downloadable 8x10” grid pattern that you put under the item being scanned, however the stock is evidently too large for the 8x10” grid and I get an error message of grid not found. I might need a larger grid tried contacting the Qlone CO but no response. Any ideas on using this for my application.

    Thanks

I don't think either of those approaches will give you enough detail to cut an accurate rifle stock. At best, the X-box sensor would give you a vague general idea of the shape. And the iphone app seems to be for smaller objects.

Re: Xbox 360 Kinect scanner & Reconnectme scanning software

The Xbox 360 Kinect is a motion-sensing input device originally designed for gaming. It uses infrared sensors, cameras, and microphones to track movement and capture voice commands, allowing users to interact with their console without a traditional controller. If you want to know more then go to https://www.protechquest.com/.
Beyond gaming, the Kinect has been repurposed for various non-gaming applications, including 3D scanning and motion capture in fields such as healthcare, robotics, and creative arts.

Kinect for 3D scanning works by projecting infrared dots across a space and measuring their distortion as they hit objects. These distortions help the system map the depth and structure of the environment, making it possible to create 3D models of scanned objects or people. Kinect scanners are popular in DIY and academic communities due to their affordability compared to industrial 3D scanning solutions.

    ReconnectMe Scanning Software
ReconnectMe is a software tool that facilitates using the Kinect scanner to create 3D scans. This software leverages the Kinect's depth-sensing technology, allowing users to scan objects or environments and reconstruct them as 3D models. These models can be exported to various formats compatible with other 3D software, such as Autodesk or Blender.

    Some features of ReconnectMe include:

Real-time scanning: The software provides immediate feedback while scanning, allowing adjustments for accuracy.
Post-scan editing tools: ReconnectMe offers features for refining and improving the scanned models, such as smoothing surfaces or filling in gaps.
Integration with other platforms: Scanned files can be exported for further use in 3D printing, animation, or virtual reality projects.
Kinect, along with software like ReconnectMe, allows affordable entry into 3D scanning, making it accessible for hobbyists, researchers, and small businesses.
