Re: My DIY CNC Slant Bed Lathe with Gang Tooling

    Just WOW!!

Superb job, thats a beautiful job you have made of that, well done.

I have a new CNC mill arriving in my home shop in early December, and a CNC lathe is next, but I do not have much space. This size is absolutely spot on for the space I have and the size work I want it for. I'm going to seriously have to look into making my own, because a small slant bed like the Tormach is so damn expensive for how little it is.

I look forward to seeing how yours progresses with the new turret

Re: My DIY CNC Slant Bed Lathe with Gang Tooling

Thanks guys, and I see it's been 5 years. Some other projects ahead of it are done, so this has come back up on the priorities list. I started making parts recently, and have been working on the design a little, but still a lot of detailing to do, Here are some brief descriptions of the attached pictures according to number in case they don't show up in the correct order.
    1) A Teknic servo motor will be used mounted off the front, and it will have a sheetmetal cover.
    2) The turret will use off-the shelf nozzles around the outside for the turning type tools, and 3/16 with pipe compression fittings coming off on the face.
    3) Here was starting to turn the blank. Luckily the bulk of the turning to this point was already done, but it was still 4 of 5 hours of manual lathe work.
    4) The blank was mounted on my Super Spacer indexer to machine the face, to make it easier to line up with the outside.
    5) The same program was used 8 times as it indexed around.
    6) The stub that was used to hold it was cut off.
    7) The backside was pocketed out.
    8) It was bolted through the center for drilling.

That's it for now, but I'll post more as it progresses.

Here's a little more progress. I had some 3/4" blanchard ground 1018, and some 3/4" ground SSt also. Now the main plates are milled to size, ready for further machining.
