    linear rail length

I'm located in Canada. I just purchased a CNC plasma table in need of refurbishment. I have a question about linear rails. The rails on the machine are 20mm wide, and 2700mm long. There is a slight possibility they can be saved however one of the carriages is missing blah blah blah. I'm having trouble locating affordable rail in 2700mm. So... is it common to join shorter pieces of rail (and if so, how is this done, what are the consequences etc), or is there suppliers that are affordable that will sell 2700mm long rail?

I should mention this is not for commercial use, I don't need uber accuracy especially since this will be for plasma.

    Thanks

You can join Two 1350mm Rails
Use dowel pins, shim stock, or a milled base for alignment.
Which will save you a lot of money than use single 2700mm rail.

    Re: linear rail length

Hi Iron Brew - Rail comes in 4000mm lengths usually. Then the supplier cuts it down to the specified size. Suppliers are also restricted by freighters max length specs. If you order matched lengths you can achieve any length you like. The rail manufacturer or supplier can cut down a rail and then grind the end square then match another rail to that end. These are marked so the receiver can put the puzzle back together again. See manual attached. Peter

Try bst automation. https://bstmotion.aliexpress.com/store/314742 they can sup-ply one piece or in two pieces I also suggest you get the cars to match.

Hi Iron - a thought - if you buy from BST I recommend getting chrome plated rails. They do not rust and stuff does not stick to them like plain rails do. BST can supply plain chrome (they call it white chrome) or black chrome. Peter

Thanks. I'm still new to the "new" tech.
