Wow!!! Looking at the Poll is a bit scary. Most of us are 30-59. There aren't that many young guys entering this trade. Of coarse not everyone in the world has voted here, but it is a bit ground shaking.

Looks like more 20-29 group, than in 50-59, definitly peaked, but more youngsters than oldsters, but then again oldsters are moving on to the big shop in the sky.

OK, how do you lace a fat belt?
I've got a belt on my capstan and that was joined with a metal fastener with a nylon pin but the metal clips knock hell out of the ally flat pulleys.

to lace a flat belt takes a special jig that you can squeeze by placing it in abench vice. It has slots that guide each metal staple . the staples used to come mounted on a cardboard strip and you could cut off the proper number / width to fit your belt i.e. 1", 2" etc..The clamping jig usually was about 12"{ wide . You will have to search for an old,old machine shop to find one ,also0 a restoation shop that works with pre 20 car might have oneNyle Reed

But you can just bash em in with a hammer, carefully .
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
