I just bought an old Bridgeport J-head milling machine and I'm in the process of cleaning up / stripping and repainting the machine. However, I've ran into a snag. I want to remove the dial at the knee handle for polishing and I can't figure out how it comes off. It appears that the knee handle clutch needs to come off first but I don't see how to remove it. Does anyone here know the proper way to remove this part?
If memory serves me correct, the serrated handle drive just slips on and off under the dial/ nut assembly. It has a shoulder that fit into the dial
It may be rusted or just gummy from years of use. I remember that if you unscrew the dial nut it will force the handle driver to start to move. There is just a key way that the driver drives off of to the shaft to move the knee.
I don't remember a set screw on the driver.
