Where to buy quality 3" 4-Jaw chuck?

    Hi,

Does any one know where I can buy a quality 3" 4-jaw chuck?

I have tried LMS, Enco and both carry a 3" chuck that bears a "PC" logo and they are amazingly low quality. Common problem includes jaws face machined off angle, or/and jaw requires excess force to move in the chuck.

    Thanks

    Brian

    HI ASM
Most of the machine tool supplyers sell different chucks even Enco its all
in how much you want to pay but most of them sell Bison which is very
good quality and is mid price range J&L have a 3.5" 4 Jaw Bison Plane Back
It also depends on how you are mounting it as to what is available to

qaulity and money go hand in hand in the case of chucks.

    My vote is for bison.

Do they make 3" chuck? It's the only one that will fit on my rotary table.

is your rotary table 4"? i mounted a 4" 4 jaw on a 4" rotary table by drilling though the 4 bolt holes on the back and using long bolts through the front. and yes these are reallly cheap chucks

Yes, I got the 4" rotary table from LMS. I will consider the 4" chuck, but I am going to hold out for now to see if any one know other mfg that makes 3" that will fit on the 4" rotary table.

After some search, it seems the smllest Bison made is 3.5". Which is not going to work.

    Hi AMS
I don't no how you are fitting the chuck to your LMS table but you could fit
almost any size on it as long as you can turn the handle your table has 4 T slots spaced around it the bison chuck 3.5" has 4 holes right through it so this is easy to mount using 4 capscrews and 4 tee nuts and may be a small
spacer ring on the back of the chuck

Brian, how about a Taig? It's 3-1/4" diameter and I'm really happy with mine (I use it on a Sherline lathe) http://www.taigtools.com/c1030.html

    Best regards,
