    Bearing Heater

    Just thought i would share this tip I am rebuilding a vaccumm pump and it needed new bearings i didn't have a press handy so i put the shaft in the freezer and the bearing on a good heater.... A coffee pot warmer

    frankg521, Good idea!! Can you keep the heat low enough to avoid melting seals or cooking grease out of sealed bearings? If so, you just converted my unused coffee pot warmer to a bearing heater.

    i just turned on the switch put the bearing on for 10 minutes it worked great

    If you are doing a spindle where you have open bearings I would recommend against putting the spindle in the freezer. The coffee pot thing is good but if you cool the spindle as well you will get a ton of condensation all over your new bearings as the spindle warms up. Typically just heating up the bearing should expand enough to get on to the shaft easily.
