I run 30 machines a day all by myself.... haha. Before everyone or after everyone is done calling names and making claims of "just replace me" How long are your runtimes... if you had a part that had a thirty minute runtime, as a supervisor, should I let you stand around and read a book... I dont think so, at the same time I agree with having incentives. We are talking about paiyng by the part for every part you run on your other machine as an incentive, Different jobs would of course be different prices per part.

On the 5 machines I have to run, the longest cycle time is 3 min 42 sec. The shortest is 51 sec. and the 51 sec mach is a finish op, so there is a 100% visual inspection for finish and defects in the casting, as well as 100% dimension gauging on 7 dimensions. And the only incentive is that you lose your job if you cant keep up your rate.

Program, set-up, and run 2 okuma lathes (LB15 and Cadet) part qty is almost always less than 100, most jobs around 20-50 parts. +/- .0002 on most parts with finish off machine from 8-16. Ti-6al-4v, High Perm 49, and molybdenum. the later two materials are a pain.

I am a maintenance tech and we have 45+ lathes, 4 centerless grinders, and 3 presses. At one time 1 person would run 5-7 lathes. I'm thinking about buying roller skates to go to the machine breakdowns, 1 maint tech per shift and I have 3 bosses?

Have 2 cncs, one I built from raw materials, and an old techno-isel. Now that I have the second machine, I can upgrade the first to servos and ball screws. The first machine cost me just under $3K to build, and will cost another $5K to upgrade. The second one I paid $10K for and wrote my own interface for it.

Are you looking for sub contractors to build your parts. Price per parts. What part of the world are you and what city. I might be interested if you are looking for people to build your parts.

Re: How Many Machines are you running at work

I volunteer at Creatorspace.us a Temecula, CA makerspace.

I've had up to 7 machines going at once. 2 K40 laser cutters MKS or RAMPS 1.4 conversions. 2 Repraps 3d printers RAMPS 1.4's, M3d mini 3d printer, an Airwolf 3D filament printer, and a ebay 3040 yoocnc POS -- which at the moment is getting converted to THB6600's and a separate BOB. Down the road the 3040 will be probably converted to a MKS board (Arduino 3560 + RAMPS 1.4 all in one.)
