    Guys,

    Just some related info to linear motors and levitation (well air bearings anyway!), is this machine called the TriPlanar. 2D linear motors (known as "Sawyer Motors") driving a parallel machine.
    I posted this in another thread last week but here are the links;

    Quite a few videos here;

    Cheers :cheers:

    What about two 'iron core' linear motors faced opposite to each other?

    The attractive force between the stator and slide are usually ten times the rated continuous force. So a the biggest linear motor with 5180N con. force have an attractive force of a massive 56300N! Thats equal to 5 tonnes!

    There are a number of levitation experiments that uses electromagnets to levitate iron object by turning the power on/of at the right time. So you bascially can do the same with iron core linear motors. It wouldnt be very stable without other linear motors that have the opposite attractive force. The real challenge would be the tuning. However it would cost you a fortune...
