Can I set up A axis as a slave of X axis?

Hi there! I'm going to build a CNC router table and would like to use two steppers to drive both sides of X axis. Is it possible to set up the A axis as the slave of X axis? This is so that the X and A axis will follow each other all the time.

    Wachara,

If you feed the same step and direction signal into both motor controls and switch around one of the phases on the opposing drive it will work like you want it to. I am assuming that the motors will be opposing each other on the table and not side-by-side, in which case you would wire them the exact same. If the drives you are planning on using are pulse width modulated, you must use one motor control per motor; running two motors from one drive will result in violent oscillation from your motors.

    CoAMarcus,

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm actually going to put them side by side. I didn't realize I could just plug the step and direction signals from X together into A. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

Did you try this? I am working on a similiar setup. I have hooked up my motors and have been playing around with the control. I modified my configuration to resemble one of the sample configs that is used to drive 2 motors for 1 axis. However, it only works when I am running a program. When jogging it runs each motor independantly. I do not know how to get them to run together. Is the best solution to just run the same signal to each motor controller? It seems like if one gets off and you get into a bind situation it will be difficult to straighten it our?

I know in mach3 and deskcnc there is a slave axis setting that does exactly what you want. I would assume that EMC would have the same option.
Warning: DIY CNC may cause extreme hair loss due to you pulling your hair out.

Just check both of your lead screws are the same.. i.e either rh OR lh.. iN COMBINATION U HAVE NOT TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION SIGNAL OF ANY ONE MOTOR..
