    Hi,
My hobby interest lead me to lathes/mills. Now I find myself totally absorbed in wanting to learn CNC. Looking forward to learning all I can. My hats off to all that share their knowledge. Folks like this is what makes this forum appear to be so great. Thanks!

    Hi all,
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Neal and I go by jnp2whls. With that tag you can probably guess that I'm interested in all two wheeled vehicles. After many years in the electrical/mechanical field in military aircraft, I some how ended up with a job as a technician in a large machining shop. We had just about any make and model you've ever heard of and some that didn't have prints or books because they were that old. To old to even use BTR (remember those?). After 4 years there I moved on to work as a technician for one of their distributors, and eventually crossed to electrical and mechanical tech covering Arkansas. After years of suffering with a head and shoulder injury the VA finally granted me disability so now I putter with my Chinese made mill / lathe combo, weld recumbent tricycles, design some small custom bicycle parts, and make bicycle trailers. So far I have enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to participating in this forum.
    Neal

    Hello friends,
surfing the internet lead me to this great place.I'm from Bulgaria and please excuse my english in advance
I was "googling" for "CNC plasma cutting machine" and more specific - "table" and I found this forum. We decided to build a table for a 2 axis plasma and oxigen cutter machine because it is too expensive to purchase it and we have the right tools and knowledge to build one.It will be 6x2 meters.Hope here I will find interesting ideas and examples to help me build this table

Question First post and looking for answers??

    H'lo

I have been checking forums for CNC help.
Have purchased the 3 stepperdriver and breakout board over a year ago.
Trying to figure out how to wire up a Dahlgren engraver to it.
Also want to change the Z axis to a stepper rather than the air/only up or down.
Also want to build a machine that can work on 12ft x 2 to 4 ft wide for making murals or even crown molding??
Have looked at lots of info and ideas on this forum.
Will help alot with my project I am sure

    Wish I was that smart...

I found this forum while trying to find an economical alternative to the $90K CNC wire bending machines that are on the market today.

I am not nearly smart enough to ever build one of these things, but I am very interested in finding someone who either has, or could build one for me.

SO... I am going to do a lot of reading on this forum and a lot of question askin'.

Also, I have been an AutoCAD operator for years and years. So I will do my best to offer advice and answers in that particular forum.

Oh and the reason I am looking for a a 2D wire former? Glad you asked. I am trying to manufacture a 'product' where I need to form the outer perimeter out of .125 wire. And due to the extremely varied number of designs and also the fact that I am doing onesies and twosies of them. I am hoping that a CNC bender/former will give me accuracy and speed that in turn will lower my manufacturing costs.

    Thanks
    Lee

I guess I should introduce myself.

I found this place from a recommendation of a friend on a woodworking website.

I know next to nothing about CNC, or CAD, but I'm ready to learn. I live and work in Tokyo Japan, I'm a Canuck, I've been here in Japan for over 18 years now, I love sushi, but hate natto

I recently went to a trade show of industrial woodworking machines, mainly because the importer of the SawStop tablesaw was there, an I am hugely interested in getting one. While at the tradeshow, wandering around, I came upon a booth from a Taiwanese company called Geetech, they make a lot of woodworking equipment for a lot of companies. I'm also a woodturner, I have a Nova DVR 3000 lathe, well they had some smaller lathes there for display, and would sell them, as they did not wish to cart them back to Taiwan, I bought a lathe, for $200, I could not resist. The fellow at the booth was very nice and helpful, he has a small DC there that he said I could have if I came by truck to pick the lathe up (instead of shipping it to my home). I came by truck to get the lathe and the DC, and we got talking and he asked me if I also wanted the "other" tool they were showing..........

    This is a pre-production model

I told him it was well out of my price range, but I was very interested, he told me that if I took it home and promised to use it a lot and give them a bunch of feedback, that I could have it  I was shocked and I also agreed on the spot. I can also not sell the machine, without their approval first.

Now I have to learn about CNC and CAD, so I'm hoping that this is the place to be.

For all of you experienced CAD operators, how would you recommend I start learning the ins and outs? The software I've been given is by a company called Type 3.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

    Cheer!

    Hi Stu

I have posted to several of your posts on Woodwork Forums and followed a lot of your posts there. From the sound of it you certainly were in the right place at the right time. There are many diferent forums on CNCzone that will be able to provide help with getting you equipment running. I myself am interested in CNC but don't know enough about it yet to be of much help but might be able to point you to a couple of places to post. If I can help in any way let me know Stu. If you wish you can pm me. I'll be watching your progress.

    cheers

    Don

    Newcomer to this Community

    Hi,

My name is Shum, a retiree from Singapore. Although my hobby is in electronics, I am venturing into the cnc hobby and hope to pick up some knowledge here and would like to seek the help of the community from time to time. I have just finished building my first cnc machine using commonly found materials from general hardware stores. I am using Mach3 software to control my machine, and am still sorting out some details to get it going properly. Thank you.

    Shum

    Pleather,
been running my vortech router everyday trouble free for a little over a year and half now. I didnt know anything about cnc when we bought it but it was pretty easy to get up and going. The guys Vortech are great to work with. We're making money with it everyday. We are getting ready to order a second one.. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

BTW I think you'll find people here very helpful.

I went with the Vortech shortcut 203 http://www.vortechcnc.com/cnc-routers.html I'm glad to hear Pike 88 has been running so long and is buying another one. There were alot of routers to choose from and it helps me feel like I mad a good purchase going with Vortech.

I'll update and add anything I can.
