I've been hanging around just looking for a while now, thought I'd make myself known.
Been "squirrelling" as opportunity presented itself, and have gathered up all sorts of components, so it's time to make some kind of start, while the old dog still has some life left in 'im.
Projects in mind are:
1. Lathe, gang-tooled, based on a low-hours Hardinge HSL.
2. Gantry-style Router/miller, Extruded alloy frame, probably around 800x500 X/Y. I'm planning a home-brewed spindle unit using a sweet Schaublin ER 20 item in the nose, don't envisage speeds above 6-8K. I've an intuitive mistrust of travelling gantries, (probably ill-founded!!) and plan to have a travelling table & short Z(80-100) with the height of the gantry adjustable.
Rails, ballscrews, spindle bearings, steppers, stock materials, are all to hand, I'll be looking for advice at controller time!!
