Hoss,
I'm working on an attachment similiar with led lighting and a reflective sensor in one housing eliminating the need for the disc all together.
Let me know what you think.

Haven't been totally slacking off on the trunnion table.
Just 1 1/2 more parts to make this weekend and I can bolt 'em all together.
I'll post the prints later for the rotary table mods to convert it to a simple 4th axis.

Here's a few pics of the prototype almost done. I added a few more led's, 7 wasn't quite enough light so I tripled it to 21.

I assume this is to be mounted on the bottom side of the head. With that i also assume you would need to drill and tap, to mount it?
Correct and correct.

Looking very cool Tom, very bright.
Played around some more with Alibre and made a model of the rotary table.
Files are too large to upload the pdf or STL here. Don't have the internals done anyhow.
Pics though.

Oops, back to the drawing board, just noticed I forgot the mounting slots in the base.

Great job Hoss! How fast can the table rotate in RPM? Could you use it for a Lathe and 4th Axis?

Hey Bob,
Nope, not in the traditional sense.
This rotary table has a lower ratio than some at 36:1 but that would still mean to get
a decent enough turning speed of say 500 rpm, the drive motor would have to spin at 18,000 rpm.
I will be doing some "turning" with it using an endmill though.
It's main purpose will be positioning.
I already have a "turning" 4th axis as you know.

We have a trunnion table.
Wound up with an 11 x 5 inch work area, could mount a 6 inch wide part and still rotate to 90 degrees as is.
Can't wait to take it down and hook up the old 4th axis motor and try making something with it.
Should be cool.
Also made a little video for newbies that ask about "manual" control with CNC.
Shows drilling a couple holes using jog buttons and MDI input.
Excuse the poor webcam quality.

Posted a video in response to an email question about drilling peck cycles.
I made myself a couple little text files that explain the codes a long time ago
but the video shows it real time.
Just though I'd pass them along.

Trunnion looks nice, what are you dong about backlash?
I added thrust bearings and threads to the drive shaft to be able to adjust it out there
and use the setscrew on the side of the casting to take it out of the worm gear.

I had an email question from someone that wanted to use any of their tools as a tool probe.
They have the part isolated and wanted to be able to find the edge no matter which tool is in spindle not just with a dedicated tool probe.
I edited the codes for my buttons so that it will compensate for the tool diameter that is reported in the tool table.
You can input the diameter yourself if you wish.
The auto corner and auto edge finding buttons were changed.
A vice could be isolated from the table and clamps with some thin delrin or HDPE sheet, etc.
I'll post the codes tomorrow after I double check them on the mill, I just used the PC to simulate for this video.

Hoss,
Awesome job!
Where can we find the new screens and code?
Jeff...
Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
Thanks for the nice demonstration and presentation through "youtube".
Here ya go jeff and gary,
The codes have all been checked on my mill and are good to go.
You can now use any diameter tool you want for the probe just by entering the dia. in the DRO.
The videos show my tests using the trunnion table isolated from the rest of the mill.
Only took some thin sheets of plastic.
Thanks for asking Gary, this turned out pretty cool.

The trunnion table is mounted up now and indicated in but that's about as far as I got this weekend.
When i'm not concerned with making it isolated it'll be easier to mount using the pins in the tooling plate to line it up.
This video is just a quick run through.
