I can see the pressure is supplied by the belville washers during normal operation.
When in the unlocked position is the unlocking force taken by the spindle bearings?
Very solid lock with 4 pairs of washers.

Nice Job;
Are you going to share the build process?

if you look just below the belville washers theres a coller that is attached to the spindel the hole unit floats so when clamped the unit lifts up to apply pressure upward on the bottom of the washer the two front mounting bolts are spring loaded so the unit comes back down when unclamped there is .020 clearence between the bottom plate and coller
hope this explanes it any other questions?
I didn't see the springs. :withstupi
WELL DONE! Nice.

i am still waiting for my tormach tooling to show up but to try it i just used a 3/4 end mill in the collet seems to hold well but if more spring pressur is required i can move the front air cylinder to the back with a longer lever bar that would increase the power a lot then i could ad more clamp force by changing the amount and configuration of the belville washers
wouldent look as good tho
now for the part thats not so easy for me the programing part for tool changer
think ill start with a tool tray on the table just to get it working
i have some ideas for a better way but one step at a time
is that the x4? I'm in the process of doing the same thing for my x6... I ended up buying the z-bot tool changer and adapting it for my table. comes with mach3 interface and programming, and it already works with tormach tooling. you can configure the tool change location point so it's pretty easy to make work... just needed to buy a 24v 2.5amp power supply.
yes its a x4 did you buy the power drawbar too does it apply pressure to spindel bearings havnt seen it but from all the talk here it does thats why i built mine no presure on bearings mabey it doesnt matter plus i like the challenge
It came with a power draw bar... I cut off the mounting points and am making a new plate on the bottom that will not squeeze the bearings.
